Emma Rebeck/Rebcik/Repcik/Reperik Gerbic
We know very little about Emma Rebeck. We have her death certificate that shows very little. Her parents names are not known, and where she is from is unreadable. The informant for her death certificate is her husband Frank
Emma was 33 when she died July 9, 1909 which means she was probably born in 1876.
Birth certificate for her oldest child Rudolph Gerbitz born April 12, 1895. Her name is spelled Reperik
John Gerbic born December 29, 1897
This birth certificate of her daughter Anna Antonia in April 29, 1899 spells Emma's name as Amalie Rejncik. But July 25, 1943 a legal document changed the birth certificate to spell Anna's mother's name as Emma Rebcik (and it is typewritten, so readable)
According to her son Frank John Gerbic's birth certificate we see that March 7, 1947 they officially changed the spelling on the document. This time (also typed) Emma's last name is Repcik.

Frank Anton Gerbic and Mary Schufsa (Second marriage)
Frank and Mary (Schufsa) had two children. Victor Rudolph and Anthony John.
The story as told to me by my father Anthony John was that his father had married sisters and both came from the "old country". I can find no evidence of this, Emma's children tell the story that they didn't even know of Frank's second marriage, or that they knew almost nothing. The two women could have come from Slovenia, maybe they had known each other over there. I am under the impression that Mary Schufsa was "sent for". I don't know if we will ever know how this happened. But it was not uncommon for a younger sibling or close relation to live in the family, and when the wife died he would marry the younger woman who was already in the household. (I assume this was common as the same thing happened on my other family tree to my grandfather)
My father's older half siblings were much older than he was and he only met one Anna who picked him up and took him to a birthday party when he was young. Growing up, my father, Victor and Mary were dirt poor. They really could have used some help from these older siblings but my father understood that there was some family division between Mary (his mother) and these other children. He did not know what the cause of the tension was.

Note on Documents
When working with old documents it is really hard to read the print even on typewritten forms. SO thankfully the Internet gives us blank forms that we can see. If only it was easier to read the cursive writing that they insisted on using. ;-)
Here I'm including documents for use when reviewing these old documents.

Disclaimer
From time to time I've heard from people who think I'm nosy or don't understand why someone would be searching for all Gerbics. Some people think I'm after their security questions (mother's maiden name) Some people think I'm looking for money.
I'm doing this as a promise to my father. Before he died he asked me to search for his siblings and find out what happened to them. He would be thrilled that I've gone so much farther. And then it developed past that promise, I found that I really enjoyed this. It is like sorting out jigsaw puzzle pieces from many boxes and trying to make one puzzle. It is addicting and a lot like being a detective.
In my other life I founded and run a team of people from all over the world that writes Wikipedia pages. And this isn't that much different. Everything you find must have some kind of evidence to prove it. And it is preserving history, something that I feel passionate about.
The people whose stories I'm trying to tell are not famous, they might have lived just normal lives. But I really think that everyone's story is special, I don't know if I can find that story, but maybe I will. The documents will give us clues, and the rest might come from knowing the history that was happening in that area at that time.
And lastly, with the invention of the Internet, you really have very little privacy. Everything on this website I was able to find by searching, or paying a few dollars and getting the document from a government body or elsewhere. Put it this way, if someone wants to know something, they can find it. I will NOT be releasing information about living Gerbics, except only in a general way. Once a person has died, they no longer have privacy rights, this has been proven in courts of law many times.

Lost Gerbics
Some of these names appear on just one document. They may not really be Gerbics, I've seen misspellings many times, but until I find that out they will remain on this page.
My hope is that with Internet Search engines, somebody out of curiosity will search for a family name and come here to this site. And say "we aren't lost" and will give me enough history to be able to get the record straight. If you are one of these people, please email me at SusanGerbic@yahoo.com and lets talk.
Frank Anton Gerbic
This is my direct ancestor, my grandfather. My father told me stories about Frank, not sure how much was correct but I will be relaying what I know for sure as well as what I was told.
On his death certificate information is given by his nephew Anton Gerbic Jr, I believe the dates are incorrect. Anton lists Frank's birth as October 4, 1860. Also the death certificate says that he was born in Rosin, Austra.
First marriage & family
Frank was married two times. The first wife is Emma Rebeck I think she came from Slovenia but not sure. Their children are ...
Rudolph Gerbitz (b April 12, 1895)
